Anita
Tanay
Anita Tanay is 1979 graduate of the University
of Michigan Law School, and has spent her entire
career representing unions and employee benefit
funds.
Ms. Tanay has represented labor clients in all
aspects of the law. She is primarily responsible
for representing, Amalgamated Transit Union Local
308, the Union for CTA rail employees, In that
capacity, Ms. Tanay provides advice on contract
interpretation issues, guidance on whether grievances
should proceed to arbitration and handles and
supervises the arbitrations of numerous grievances.
She is also involved in contract negotations,
interest arbitrations, and legislative iniatives
involving the local, as well as litigation before
the Illinois State Labor Relations Board and in
state court.
Ms. Tanay is also special counsel to the Illinois
Federation of Teachers regarding fair share fees.
In her work with public pension funds, Ms. Tanay
has represented the Chicago Teachers' Pension
Fund in litigation involving administrative review
of disability matters in both the Circuit and
Appellate Courts of Illinois, and has assisted
public pension funds in refining disability procedures.
She has also advised public sector funds on various
issues involving statutory construction of the
Illinois Pension Code.
In the area of ERISA, Ms. Tanay has extensive
experience in IRS compliance matters preparing
required plan documents, monitoring plan compliance,
evaluating disability pension applications, determining
benefit eligibility, collecting benefits wrongfully
converted by beneficiaries, evaluating proposed
qualified domestic relations orders and collecting
delinquent contributions.
Ms. Tanay is admitted to practice in Illinois
(1980), Michigan (presently inactive), the U.S.
District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh
Circuit.
