Joseph
M. Burns
Joseph M. Burns graduated from Loyola University
School of Law. Mr. Burns has been extensively
involved in representing unions and employee benefit
funds since 1979.
He represents a variety of labor organizations,
including Amalgamated Transit Union Locals throughout
the country, including the two ATU Locals representing
almost 8,000 employees of the Chicago Transit
Authority; Painters District Council No. 30, representing
painters and tapers; a variety of entertainment
industry locals of the International Alliance
of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture
Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts representing stagehands studio
mechanics, ticket sellers and theatrical wardrobe
personnel; and Automobile Mechanics Local 701.
Mr. Burns also represents a number of public
and ERISA pension and health & welfare funds,
including the Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund,
the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Retirement
Fund, the Park Employees' Annuity and Benefit
Fund, IATSE Funds, and the Painters District Council
No. 30 Funds. He handles our funds' investment
relationships and is responsible for evaluating
and negotiating investment management agreements,
including complex alternative investment fund
agreements. As counsel to employee benefit funds,
Mr. Burns attends trustees' meetings and provides
a full range of legal services to employee benefit
funds.
Mr. Burns is admitted to the Illinois bar (1979),
the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United
States District Court for the Northern District
of Illinois, the United States District Court
for the Central District of Illinois and the Federal
trial bar. Mr. Burns has a peer rating of AV.
Mr. Burns is also a member of a number of employee
benefits based organizations, including the International
Foundation of Employee Benefit Funds and the National
Association of Public Pension Attorneys.
Mr. Burns is a Board Member of Global Alliance
for Africa (GAA), and is on the Advisory Board
of GAA's Women and Children's Legal Rights Project
in East Africa, and has traveled to various parts
of Africa to assist with projects dealing
with GAA's economic strengthening programs.
