Marisel
A. Hernandez is a graduate of New York University
School of Law. She worked at the National Labor
Relations Board in New York and Chicago, and in
the Chicago office of the U.S. Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission prior to joining the firm
in 1988.
Ms.
Hernandez represents public and private labor
clients, including United Food & Commercial
Workers Local 1546 in Chicago, various Amalgamated
Transit Union locals, Painters District Council
No. 30, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and
the Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund on a variety
of issues in state and federal court and before
administrative agencies, such as the EEOC and
the Illinois Department of Human Rights.
She
also provides advice and handles personnel matters.
She advises union clients on a daily basis regarding
contract interpretation, grievances, arbitrations,
unfair labor practices, organizing and representation
matters. Ms. Hernandez negotiates agreements on
behalf of employee benefit funds with service
providers and assists with the negotiation of
investment and investment-related contracts.
Ms.
Hernandez has tried jury cases in federal court
on behalf of individual plaintiffs in employment
discrimination matters and has been first chair
at trials involving the Fair Labor Standards Act.
She also handles individual and class action cases
relating to the Family & Medical Leave Act
and Fair Labor Standards Act collective actions.
Ms.
Hernandez is fluent in Spanish. She is admitted
to practice in New York (1983), New Jersey (1983),
Illinois (1985), the U.S. District Court for the
Southern District of New York, the U.S. District
Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the
Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Federal
trial bar.

sits on the Board of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
located in Pilsen and Little Village in Chicago.
